Ketosis. It's a word I keep seeing everywhere. I've recently started on the Stone Age Diet and there's a lot of discussion about ketosis. Whether or not ketosis is natural, whether or not it's bad.
Is ketosis natural? Is it bad to have ketosis? What the heck is ketosis?

You're right - lots of people are talking about ketosis and lots of people (and even some doctors and dieticians) don't understand what ketosis is.
Ketosis is defined as the presence in the blood of high levels of ketones. Ketones are a by-product of the body's consumption of fats rather than glucose.
Ketones are acidic, so the possible danger of ketosis is that it may raise blood acidity levels to unhealthy levels.
Traditionally, ketosis has been viewed as a warning indicator in diabetics. If insulin levels are so low that the body can't metabolize the glucose that's in the blood, ketosis develops and insulin injections may be necessary.
Low carb diets induce a state known as benign ketosis by denying the body large quantities of carbs that are easily converted to glucose. Ketosis itself is rarely dangerous, but as it can be a sign of a potentially dangerous condition, many doctors are wary of ketosis.
So ketosis is a natural state but is not frequently experienced. Ketosis is not unhealthy but can be a sign of an unhealthy condition. Ketosis isn't bad, and indeed many people liken it to a natural high.
